These are interesting times in Namibia’s media and communication space, with the planned appointment of the Information Commissioner to actualise the Access to Information legislation, the changing of guards: Jonathan Beukes taking over from Tangeni Amupadhi as the Editor of The Namibian newspaper and Menesia Muinjo (first female Director General) in the saddle at the national broadcaster in place of Stanley Similo etc. In addition, the Department of Digital Arts and Animation has come on board at the Namibian University of Science and Technology, while at the University of Namibia, there have been unprecedented enrolments in the BA, MA, MPhil and PhD in Media and communication programmes after approvals were gotten from the regulatory authorities.

The third edition of the Namibia Media and Communication Conference (NMCC), taking place 20-21 September 2026 at the University of Namibia’s Library Auditorium. Under the theme, “Media and communication in transition: A call to action,” the conference is set to interrogate these happenings within the backdrop of regional, continental and global media and communication trends to assist the country navigate and stay on top in this space.

Based on these scenarios, submissions are invited for papers, panel proposals, posters, media and communication productions (students’ works are particularly welcomed). Additional information here.
