The 2026 edition of the annual round table meeting of the African Journalism Education Network (Ajen) comes to Mauritius, from 12 – 14 August 2026. And you’re invited! The event is open to Ajen members and non-members, offering opportunities to hear from industry leaders and journalism educators, to discuss important issues of common concern, to learn and network.
African investigative journalism conference heads to Kenya for first time in 22 years
The African Investigative Journalism Conference, the continent’s largest gathering of journalists, will this year be held outside South Africa for the first time since its inception more than two decades ago. The 22nd edition of the conference will take place at the Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications, in Nairobi, Kenya, from 10 to 12 November 2026, marking a historic shift for the annual event that has traditionally been hosted in Johannesburg by the Wits Centre for Journalism.
EVENT: One World Media Awards
Entries are invited for the One World Media Awards, which will take place in June 2025. This is an opportunity to have your work recognised amongst the best in global journalism. The One World Media Awards recognise the best media coverage from and about the global south. Stories that break through stereotypes, change the narrative and connect people across cultures. Each year, hundreds of entries from all over the world are judged by our panels of distinguished professionals, carefully selected from the media and non-profit sectors for their wide-ranging experience and expertise.

AJEN Round Table 2025: Professor Claudia Nothelle on Fake News, Fact-Checking and the Challenge of Disinformation
The African Journalism Education Network (AJEN) held its fourth annual Round Table at tUniMAC, Institute of Journalism, in Accra. A central highlight of the gathering was the Day 2 Adenauer Media Lecture, delivered by Professor Claudia Nothelle, titled “Fake News and Fact-Checking: Understanding the Mechanisms Behind Modern Disinformation,” examined how disinformation spreads in today’s digital environment, how audiences respond, and what journalism educators and practitioners can do in response.
IPIE to launch scientific panel on AI impact on economic development
The International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) will host the AI Action Summit in Paris in February 2025, launching a new panel to study AI’s impact on economic development and inclusion. The summit’s theme, “public interest AI,” highlights how AI is reshaping global access to financial services, banking, housing, and employment opportunities.
Ethiopia to host the 15th EACA conference
The 15th East African Communication Association (EACA) conference will take place from August 27–29 2025, at Addis Ababa University’s School of Journalism and Communication in Ethiopia. Centered on the theme ‘Media and Communication in Africa’s Integration’, the conference aims to foster a mature, robust, and professional media and communication ecosystem across the continent.

Bumper 20th AIJC edition in the works
The 20th African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) promises to be a bumper edition, dealing with several issues facing journalism today. The event’s new coordinator, veteran journalist Beauregard Tromp tells us that journalism sustainability will be in strong focus at the conference from October 30 – November 1.
