The media industry is a dynamic and influential field that plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and discourse. However, women continue to face challenges in accessing leadership roles and opportunities within this sector. This seminar aims to empower aspiring early-career women media professionals by connecting them with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support and inspiration. Central to this initiative is identifying young women with a passion for leading within news media contexts and fostering a strong sense of ambition and self-belief so that as they grow in their careers, they do so with the skills, confidence, and network necessary to assume leadership positions. We envision a future where these talented women are prepared and eager to lead news media entities one day.
The event, hosted by the South African National Editors Forum, the UWC Chair in Media Inclusion and Diversity and the SABC in the Western Cape, will be hybrid, with an option for online participation for those who are outside of Cape Town. If you are, or know of, an early career woman news media practitioner or final year/post graduate woman journalism student, be sure to share this opportunity and encourage them to register. Email Dzudzie Netshisaulu to RSVP.
